Glamazon App ReDesign

By Joe Purves,17 Mar 2018 - 5 min read

Glamazon is a one-stop beauty shop that delivers mobile stylists to your door and allows you to book into a salon close to you.

Starting from the strategic partnership of global entrepreneur Lisa Maree and former beauty and fashion publicist, Lauren Silver, the app was founded through their desire to incorporate their regular beauty needs into their busy lifestyles.

Through balancing mobile stylists and salon bookings, extensive market research and working alongside a positive and supportive development team, has come an all-encompassing booking app that allow users to conveniently connect with their favourite beauty services.

We were appointed with the task of refreshing the design and experience of the app. The seamless user journey of the Glamazon app engages and most importantly guides users from booking various beauty services to transporting them to the doorstep of salons. The design not only facilitates the process of customers connecting with their desired beauty service but also stylists and salons in joining the Glamazon team.

What motivated and inspired you to start your business?

Lauren: I was working in PR at the time, and with multiple events a week, I became frustrated at my inability to book salon appointments conveniently, without having to run out of the office to make phone calls. After booking an Uber to leave a meeting one day it occurred to me that I should create a similar platform showing available salon appointments nearby.

What were you doing before Glamazon started up? Is this your first business?

Lisa: I founded Lisa Maree, my swimwear and resortwear label 8 years ago and am still the sole founder and owner. I have built Lisa Maree from start-up to a successful international business with several offices located around the world. Lisa Maree stocks stores such as Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Selfridges throughout the USA, UK and Europe and has international celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Kate Upton and Vanessa Hudgens wearing the label, to name a few.

Did either of you have any grounds in the tech industry before you started the Glamazon app?

Lauren: I started Glamazon without even knowing what the word ‘start-up’ meant. It’s safe to say that I’ve had to learn everything from scratch. Luckily, I’ve had an amazing team behind me and I really believe in outsourcing my weaknesses!

Do/Did you face any prejudice being a pair of female entrepreneurs in the business industry? If so, how did you overcome it?

Both: I believe there is a lot of power in being the only two female entrepreneurs in a meeting or a room full of men sometimes. We’ve been able to overcome any prejudices by demonstrating we are equally as capable as our male counterparts.

What has surprised you about the success of Glamazon? Did you always expect it to become what it has today? pp?

Both: Validation from real customers as well as our salons and stylists. Both of us knew it had the potential to be successful but you never anticipate such positive responses, so this has been a welcomed surprise.

Did either of you have any grounds in the tech industry before you started the Glamazon app?

Lisa: I love the freedom of being able to schedule my time. I may work late into a Sunday night and then allow myself a relaxing Monday morning with a walk by the beach. I also like being responsible for my actions, which comes with pressure because there is no one to blame but yourself if something goes wrong; but I feel that with this, comes a sense of responsibility in business and follows through in the rest of my life.

Both: Don’t lose faith early on, if you have a vision follow it, know everything about and trust yourself to succeed.
